What is a public adjuster?

A public adjuster is an insurance claims adjuster who represents the policyholder during a commercial or residential loss. Public adjusters are licensed by state departments of insurance and are the only type of claims adjuster that can legally represent the rights of an insured during an insurance claim process.

Primarily we appraise the damage, prepare a report, an estimate, document the file, read the policy of insurance to determine coverage, and negotiate with the insurance company’s claims handler. We do not work for the insurance company. We work for the homeowner.

The insurance company sent me an adjuster, why do I need another one?

Public adjusters work for the best interest of the policyholder. We represent you not the insurance company. As a consumer you are part of the public and therefore the only type of adjuster who can represent your needs is one who has the word “PUBLIC” in their title.

There are three classes of insurance claims adjusters:

Staff adjusters:
Employed directly by an insurance company or self-insured entity.

Independent adjusters:
Independent contractors hired by the insurance company.

Public adjusters:
Employed by the policyholder and represent the policyholder.

Why do I need help filing an insurance claim?

The typical insurance policy contains many provisions, complex details, and technical language about your requirements and the complicated procedures you must adhere to in case of loss. Many people do not know or understand these policy provisions and do not realize that the burden of proof is on them, the policyholders. In fact, most insurance company representatives actually prefer to work with a professional public insurance adjuster rather than an inexperienced insured.

A professional public insurance adjuster not only has your confidence, but the insurance company adjuster’s as well because they recognize that they are working with a professional. Professional public adjusters are well trained in what to look for in an insurance policy and fully understand the procedures necessary in preparing and filing a claim in accordance with policy requirements.

I got a check from the insurance company, and it is not enough. What do I do?

If you have been underpaid by your insurance company, you may hire a public adjuster to file a supplemental claim to recover the additional money needed for repairs.

Will my claim be settled quicker with a public adjuster?

We know exactly what is necessary to provide to the insurance company in order to expedite the settlement of your claim. A great deal of time can be save by having our professional public adjuster handle your loss.

How are Public Adjusters compensated?

A Public Adjuster receives a small percentage of the amount recovered. If no recovery is attained, there is no fee. In a catastrophe they can charge no more than 10% and if not a catastrophe no more than 20% in the state of Florida
